Greetings followers!
It's been a few months since my last posting, so here's a summary of what has happened since my last posting:
The semester has rolled along much like my other semesters, only I have been spending it with Kellie. We went to New Orleans once to celebrate a birthday, we drove to and from Texas to see Kellie's family (which I enjoyed a lot), and most recently we spent Thanksgiving break with my family in Little Rock (it was a much needed break from Nicholls).
At work, I have been given an assignment to study the effectiveness of a new kind of minnow trap. What makes this even better is that I will most likely be the first person to study this trap and I might get published!!
Kellie and I are going to be getting an apartment together for next semester which has us both very excited. This semester has been rough in the suite mate department. Kellie has the inconsiderate French exchange quartet residing in her living room and I have a fratboy living with me, sufficed to say it will be nice to have quiet evenings in a place where we aren't confined to a single room for fear of property destruction.
So looks like things are looking up, I have a wonderful relationship with Kellie, I like my job, we have a great new apartment, and school is finally interesting. In case I forget to post again this year, Happy Holidays and a very happy New Year to everyone.

This past weekend, my Marine Biology Lab class spent 3 days (2 nights) at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) in Cocodrie, LA. Here a few pictures that my professor took. I dont have all the pictures yet so I will post more later as I get them.

These first two were taken Friday night on the Research Vessel Acadiana. We took the ship out into Terrebonne Bay to do some night trawling to collect fauna samples.

These two were after the first trawl, we're all gathered around a steel table picking through fish trying to identify them all and record numbers. The next few pictures are from Saturday afternoon when we went out on the Ms. Dee to gather oyster samples in Bay Cocodrie.

Later Saturday afternoon we got to go into the marsh to gather Spartina Alterniflora and core samples to process later this semester. As you can see, we got quite muddy and had a good time putting mud on each other.

The last picture here was taken Sunday afternoon before we cleaned up the LUMCON lab and headed home.

The Semester is in full swing. This past weekend, Kellie (my girlfriend) and I drove up to Little Rock to visit the family, we had a great time visiting Heifer, having a barbeque and relaxing. This week should be a fairly normal week, save for the fact that it is one day shorter due to Monday being Labor day. This upcoming weekend I will be staying 2 nights at a research station in Cocodrie called LUMCON. We (my Marine biology lab) will be collecting samples to study for the remainder of the semester. It should be fun!

Episode 2: Return of the Stephen
My second year at Nicholls has begun! I have had my first day of classes and things are looking good. As a marine biology student, I will have full access to the newest building on campus! Also, in September I get to spend a weekend down in Cocodrie at Nicholls' research station, Lumcon!
I now have a job! Upon my return I went to see my adviser and he hired me on the spot as an aide, I will be helping him with his research on oysters.
More updates to come as the semester continues
